Ballarat Brewing Academy is where homebrewers become confident brewers. We teach the complete process — selecting malt and hops, managing fermentation, bottling, and carbonation — through practical guides, classic recipes, and honest equipment reviews. Join a community that cares about the craft, not just the pour.
Whether you're brewing your first pale ale or refining a recurring lager recipe, our step-by-step lessons cover the decisions that actually change your beer: malt ratios, hop timing, fermentation temperature, and proper cleaning routines.

From grain to glass
Every course follows the same disciplined path we use in the brewhouse. You move from recipe planning to a finished, carbonated beer you can actually taste and critique.
Step 01
You start by defining the style, target gravity, bitterness and colour. We review malt selection, hop schedule and yeast strain before anything touches water.
Step 02
Mashing, lautering and boiling happen in small batches so you can watch every change. We measure pH, gravity and volume at each stage and log the numbers.
Step 03
Temperature control and yeast health are the focus here. You track daily gravity readings, watch for off-flavours and learn when to crash cool and condition.
Step 04
Bottling, kegging and carbonation are covered with real equipment. You practice purging oxygen, priming sugar calculations and achieving the right serving pressure.
Step 05
The finished beer is evaluated for aroma, body, head retention and balance. You compare your batch against a commercial reference and note what to adjust next time.
Step 06
You leave with a full brew log, tasting notes and a clear plan for scaling the recipe. The community forum stays open for follow-up questions on your next attempt.
